Gabe Newell (CEO of Steam & Valve, co-founder of Starfish Neuroscience) talking about Brain Computer Interfaces (BCIs) in 2013 and how they’ll affect the future of gaming & the entertainment industry.

Inner speech decoders are becoming real and for people who've lost the ability to speak, that's everything.

Thought-to-text isn't just a tech milestone. It's giving a voice back to the people who need it most. https://t.co/HrB1lqF2oE

Okay this is actually insane but I'm immune to this level of progress at this point:

Stanford teams built a tiny brain implant + AI that can turn your *inner speech* into real spoken words.

Not “try to talk” (attempted speech). Literally just THINK the words.

This is so cool! BCIs will help many people even before they help all of humanity combined.

Someone just put Brain Computer Interface (BCI) decoding in a web browser.

PhantomLoop is an open-source tool that lets you run BCI decoders directly in your browser. You can visualize brain signals, prototype decoder models, and even generate them from plain English prompts. https://t.co/XNoJfjGSgF

Genie 3 dropped, btw. It is a real-time, fully interactive World Model, and that is the future of entertainment, gaming, simulations, etc., on the software side.

Now, the hardware; BCIs/Neural Interfaces need to catch up to it to enable a full sensory experience.

Do check it

3x Neuralink upgrade + Blindsight available soon. Also, a point to remember is that whole Brain Neural Interfaces are coming by 2028.

Check this out, I need to look a bit more into it since “EEG” was mentioned but other than that this should be theoretically possible with an advanced BCI and not just words in dreams but sharing a virtual space between millions/billions of people.

Full sensory experience

🚨 NANOTECHNOLOGY - The entire manufacturing industry is secretly converging toward the same endgame -> and nobody's talking about it.

ASML, 3D printing, advanced materials, robotics... they're all building toward Eric Drexler's vision: Atomically Precise Manufacturing (APM). https://t.co/MshntM84LB

🔶 Hidden CES gem: Play For Dream demoed an MR headset stack that looks suspiciously future-proof: dual 4K Micro-OLED, 14ms RGB VST latency, Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2, 16GB RAM + 512GB storage, built for standalone + wireless PCVR streaming.

Why it matters: Low-latency VST + https://t.co/WHdYJN2ihi

🔸CES 2026 signal, straight from the XR supply chain: Goertek showed an ultra-light MR reference design with ~100g core headset mass, a 1.35" 4K Micro-OLED + pancake optics, ~38 PPD and 100° FOV, plus VST + 6DoF.

This isn’t “a headset you can buy” - it’s the blueprint tier https://t.co/m4iayYgyi2

The technology for full-sensory VR is almost here. In just a few years - around 2027 - we will have whole-brain interfaces, and by 2030 we will see the first Matrix-level full-sensory VR (touch, taste, smell, true sight and hearing, chronoception, thermoception, etc.) in games,

🚨 New Gabe Newell aka Gaben's interview you might not have seen. The audio is poor, and the interviewer barely asked about BCI, which is disappointing, but it's still a good watch. For those unaware, Gabe is the CEO of Valve and co-founder of Starfish Neuroscience. Check my https://t.co/qDEHitr5NV

🔶Hidden gem for VR world models: A new arXiv paper proposes Sketch&Patch++, a structure-aware method to compress 3D Gaussian Splatting scenes for bandwidth-constrained XR streaming.

Why it matters: 3DGS looks incredible; until you try shipping it to headsets. This work tackles https://t.co/SgGKfKxX6X

🚨Neurotech reality check just hit Nature Medicine: an FDA-cleared, head-worn external trigeminal nerve stimulation device for pediatric ADHD was safe but showed no clinical efficacy versus a rigorous sham in a large randomized trial.

👀 Insider lens: the placebo control wasn’t https://t.co/huBnW1wWVo

♦️Meta just confirmed significant layoffs (~10% of Reality Labs) and the closure of three major VR development studios as it shifts priority and investment toward AI wearables rather than traditional immersive VR content. This marks a strategic pivot not just for the company’s XR https://t.co/6NzMJtm2eM

💠1/ At CES 2026, neurotech startup LumiMind unveiled a major consumer-level neurotechnology push: non-invasive, real-time EEG brain-computer interfaces demonstrated with live gameplay and neural signal demos on the show floor. They paired this with LumiSleep, a first-of-its-kind https://t.co/9Xc2aPArk6

🔥This is huge for BCI/Neurotech. OpenAI just led a major $252M funding round for Merge Labs (which is out of stealth mode), the new Brain Computer Interface research lab also co-founded by Sam Altman.

The focus? Developing non-invasive ultrasound-based BCIs capable of reading https://t.co/BpvktI1Nuo

At CES 2026, Neurable and HyperX unveiled the first brain-sensing gaming headset using non-invasive BCI technology. It tracks players' focus and cognitive state in real time to improve reaction times and performance. Hidden EEG sensors interpret neural signals during gameplay, https://t.co/xfghcjAlit
